We began in 2006 as Music Spirit Records—an independent record label in Canada. We started out as a way to highlight new and existing R&B, Reggae, Blues, Latin, Caribbean, and Gospel singers and musicians and to amplify stunning and distinctive voices. Since then, we’ve been actively working with American musicians and venues. In 2012, we incorporated as Music Spirit USA in Houston, Texas. Houston’s warmth, hospitality, and cultural diversity made it a perfect fit for our record label.
In the albums we produce, we work toward a live feel—a “living room experience,” rather than a contrived form of perfection. Founder and producer, Norman McDavid, works tirelessly to help artists find the true life of each of their songs and to embrace the beauty of their own voices. With a holistic approach to its artists, you’ll never see us take on just a project. We take on a person and we’re committed to that person’s career in its entirety. Rather than exploiting talent, we develop it, constantly looking for organic ways to bring together artists’ passions and gifts.
As a record label, we believe there’s much more to music than an album or a recording. Music is meant to be an experience. It’s a way to bring people together. It’s the heartbeat of cities and cultures and families and generations. Great music requires artists to move away from the digital trappings of a technology-obsessed world and to be authentic. And so, over the years, we’ve grown into more than simply a record label. We’re also an event production company and a champion of live music.
Because good music can impact entire communities, we don’t just produce musicians—we create events. Since 2013, we’ve hosted and produced several live music events spanning multiple genres and styles.
